Dr. Angerson retired after 27 years of service on January 1, 1998. Wife, Connie Anderson, was also very active in the department.

Dr. Bevan retired after 39 years of service on June 1,2018. He continues to teach courses for the department.

Dr. Chen started with the Annerobic Microbiology Department which on November 1, 1981 merged with the Department of Biochemistry and Dr. Chen became a member of the new department.
Molecular characterization of anaerobic metabolism, nitrogen fixation, and solvent production.

Dr. Chen retired after 34 years on June 30, 2010.

Dr. Gregory retired after  35 years on May 31, 2010. He continued to teach courses for the department several years after his retirement.

Dr. Keenan retired after 23 years of service on July 1, 2005. He continued to teach courses for the department several years after his retirement.

Started on April 1, 1990 as Professor of Biochemistry and Nutrition, and Director of Biotechnology at Virginia Tech.

Dr. Newton retired after 20 years of service on June 30, 2010. He continued to teach courses for the department for a couple of years after retirement.
