Sophie Cruz

Biochemistry Peer Mentor

Hi!

My name is Sophie Cruz, and I am from Purcellville, Virginia. I am a senior Biochemistry major with a minor in Adaptive Brain and Behavior. After my undergraduate years at Virginia Tech, I plan to take a gap year before starting the long track of applying to medical school.  Within that time, I hope to take some time for myself while also studying and volunteering as stress-free as possible! In my free time, I like to find ways to get involved with kids, such as volunteering locally in Blacksburg as a soccer coach or tutoring elementary students. I also enjoy the times I get to hang out with my friends, watch some shows, or work out.

My biggest advice to incoming students is to remember to always find time for yourselves and prioritize your wellbeing. This is certainly something that I had to learn for myself becuase it is so easy to get caught up in your academics and feel pressured to be working day and night on school work.  So remember, don't burn yourself out too early on and take those breaks! They will truly save you :)

Feel free to reach out and ask any sort of questions you may have along your journey at Virginia Tech!
