Amiya Jenkins

Biochemistry Peer Mentor

Hello, my name is Amiya Jenkins, and I am a senior at Virginia Tech studying Medicinal Chemistry and Biochemistry with a plan to pursue a career as a pharmaceutical scientist.  I am from Chespeake, Virginia and in my leisure time I enjoy crocheting, photography, doing my natural hair, and hanging out with friends.

I conduct undergraduate research in the chemistry department where I work with marine moon snail biomes for drug discovery. I am also an ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), so if you are interested in getting hands on experience with what you're learning in the classroom feel free to reach out and the Office of Undergraduate Research will get you connected.  Additionally, I am the Vice President of the College of Sciences Student Ambassadors Team, the Black Organizations Council and Minorities in Argiculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences.

My advice to incoming freshman is to enjoy your college experience. Your education is important, but your journey along the way is what you will remember. Network, meet your professors, join clubs, talk to upperclassmen, and take advantage of any and all opportunities that are presented to you. You never know what taking a dlight step out of your comfort zone will bring you.
